Gary Callicott
Julianas Tokyo General Manager and MD Juliana's Japan Corporation
Gary was a legend in Asia even before Juliana's Tokyo. He was the pied piper of Club land throughout Asia. He was the one member of the Juliana's Tokyo team that was not a member of Juliana's the company. Gary in fact was from Manhattan Group one of Juliana's competitors. Regardless of that, his reputation, energy, forthrightness and Texas charm meant that everyone on the Juliana's Tokyo team respected him and his direction.
It was his dream that we all followed making sense of scribbled multi colour diagrams and building on his ideas. On top of that Gary was the front man of the team and became the undoubted voice of Juliana's Tokyo.
His ability to pull an unlikely collection of rag tag techno gypsies and general waifs and strays into a team capable of producing something like Juliana's Tokyo still amazes me. Don't let that Texas charm and general modesty fool you. Here was a genius that knew exactly what he was doing. Gary more than any other was probably responsible for Juliana's Tokyo, it was his baby.
After Japan, he went back to his first home from home in Asia, Hong Kong. He currently commutes between Singapore and Macao with his company Mission Control Asia still overseeing numerous entertainment projects. He is now married to Stephanie. A true legend in the entertainment world, his energy and passion continues to inspire. We wait with interest for his memoirs and recollections.
Monica Grab
Gary Callicotts P. A. and creative muse aka Monkey Ka
Of Swiss Japanese parentage, Monica provided a valuable insight into all things Japanese and her Boston Art education helped style our own sense of fashion and art. Her creative energy and ever changing hair styles kept us enthralled. She acted as Garys translator and shared his passion for life and all things unconventional.
Now grown up, settled down and living a spiritual life in Japan as a mother with her husband and young family.
Kenny Lyle
JLG Singapore and Julianas Manager
Coming from the Singapore office where he had been looking after promotions and operations at a number of Asian clubs Kenny first came to Japan to look after another Juliana's contract in Japan. After a stint in Makuhari, Kenny came to Juliana's Tokyo itself to beef up the ex pat Club management team due to the amount of time the rest of us were now spending on Tours, CDs, TV shows etc. etc. He stayed at Juliana's until the end when he returned to Singapore. Before the Club closed Kenny had made his way up to being General Manager of the Club.
After a spell in Malaysia, he again traveled over the causeway to Singapore.
Last we heard Kenny was running a nice little Bar down there.
Brad Moran
Julianas Tokyo technical assistant
Brad was our Australian touchstone. Originally working behind the Bar where he proceeded to repair and modify anything that wasn't working. Brad was soon part of the Juliana's Engineering team. Ever cheery and direct, Brad in typical Australian fashion just got on with the job in hand and didn't suffer from that quaint English politeness. When things needed sorting Brad got is sorted one way or another with his no nonsense attitude to life.
Now proper grown up and responsible, our jack of all trades and general technical organizer now lives in Australia with his wife and kids.
Allan Muir
Julianas Tokyo Manager
Coming from Juliana's Singapore where he had been overseeing the management and promotions for a number of Clubs including Scandals at the prestigious Westin Hotel. Allan arrived in Tokyo before the Club was even finished to undertake the pre opening campaigns and the setting up of many of the operations procedures once the Club was open Allan worked the VIPs and the general customers entertaining all with his magic tricks and prowess at Golf. Allan returned to Singapore about six months after Juliana's Tokyo opened.
He still lives and works in Singapore along with his Singaporean wife Rabia and their children whom he no doubt entertains with some cool table magic.
Colin Seaton
Julianas Tokyo Engineering Manager and Technical Director Juliana's Japan Corporation
Initially went out to Japan just to oversee the installation of the Club and just never seemed to be able to leave. Once it was open, the never ending round of modifications and improvements to the Club to facilitate the expansion of its operation coupled with its success meant that in the end it was cheaper and less time consuming to relocate to Tokyo and do the job full time.
After the Club closed, he returned to Singapore, got married to Anita and after spells developing and operating a couple of entertainment and leisure outlets in Singapore and Vietnam eventually returned to the UK.
He now works for the Japanese company Bandai Namco producing amusement and entertainment outlets and also runs an Entertainment Consulting company Adelphi Entertainment Services in the UK.
Matt Taylor
Producer Juliana's Japan Corporation
